How to warn users not to drag’n'drop local files while running a web applications?

Some users might accidently drag and drop local files into a web browser while a web application is running on the same browser. When it happens, the browser, supposed to run the application, suddenly displaying the local file(s).
Then user has to go back to the application page and do it again. How to send notification to the user that he is not supposed to drag’n'drop files while the app. is running?
Could it be done using JavaScript? Please help!

You cannot do this using Javascript. You can capture drag drop events using javascript however javascript is a client side programming language and will function only if the page is loaded somewhere within the IE page. When a user browses websites, you javascript code cannot be called unless you have your code within the page they are browsing.

My thoughts for this solution is windows mfc programming. You can get handle to any window using mfc programming and then control the behaviour of various events / items. Just a warning that this is very powerful and you should code your application to register and unregister events correctly.

I have a Bachelor’s of Business Administration (concentration General Business) and work in a professional job as a business process analyst. Recently my work has required me to do some web site and Intranet site maintenance and I have found this really enjoyable. I do not care for what I do now and am interested in switching careers to web design or perhaps web development. What schooling, degrees or certifications should I pursue to make a successful jump into this field?

You could go to college for a web development diploma as you support yourself with your current job. With a diploma, you can then work your ways up in the field. I don’t think a degree in it is necessary; the Internet changes programming code every 18 months, so the Internet would change too much by the time you would finish a degree. That’s why I recommend a diploma rather than a degree or trade school. i went to a trade school and they didn’t teach, but they took my $5,000; crooks. I went to a college for a diploma in Web development and I got a good education. I’m still in the college now.

Im currently in my third yr at uni studying for a web development degree. For the last year I have been working for a small media agency who develop apps and websites for schools etc. My consists of managing projects, supporting clients and partial web development. At the moment I am being paid 50 pounds a day. How much should I ask for? My boss has already offered me a graduate job but I am worried he wont be able to pay as much as he should.

It is hard to say without knowing where you are in the UK and the local market.

Look on jobs boards for jobs with the same level of responsibility and general job content in your area and this will give you an idea of the market rate that you should ask for.
